A series of training events on the management of built environment infrastructure is scheduled to take place at Sheffield Hallam University. Preservation of Historic Buildings, 24th May 2006 Heritage buildings provide a unique and interesting part of the world around us. Without them, our towns and cities would not have the same sense of history and culture if they ceased to exist. Unfortunately, historic buildings, like most man-made structures, are prone to deterioration. Maintenance of these buildings is expensive so it is crucial that repairs are implemented correctly and at the right time to preserve their condition for future generations. Structural Waterproofing, 7th June 2006 Infrastructure designers have to consider carefully the problems associated with penetrating water, whether it is elements of a building which is susceptible to the water table or prevention of leaks from liquid retaining structures, it is important to ensure that the structure is adequately waterproofed. The courses are designed to offer state-of-the-art advice on structural waterproofing along with an understanding of technical aspects of the preservation of historic buildings. It will be of interest to Architects, Surveyors, Engineers, Building Contractors and Local Authority personnel who have an interest in infrastructure management. The event will combine presentations and interactive demonstrations. •Techniques for Characterising Building Materials (Stone, Cement, Metals) •Chemical & Mechanical Cleaning •Repair & Consolidation •Enhancing the repair •Waterproofing of New Build Structures •Prevention of Leaks in Water Retaining Structures •Waterproofing implications for Renovations and Refurbishment
