There are a vast number of bridge structures in the UK’s highway and railway transport networks which require regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure a safe and prolonged service life. Not only does the bridge manager have to have a knowledge of how various materials such as reinforced concrete, steel, cast iron and masonry perform under different conditions, an up-to-date knowledge of guidelines on how to maintain these structures is also required.
The course, organised by the Centre for Infrastructure Management at Sheffield Hallam University, is designed specifically for personnel who are engaged in the maintenance and management of bridges within the railways and highways sector. The event will combine presentations and hands-on demonstrations to provide information on:
- options for repair & strengthening different types of bridges - current guidelines for maintenance and repair - bridge management systems - fast track repairs - grouting techniques - health and safety.
Places are limited and early booking is advisable. A certificate of attendance is also available.
